After everything it took to get to that moment, seeing that positive test brought a wave of emotions: joy, nerves, disbelief, and a quiet kind of hope we had been holding onto for a long time.
It was still early, and there was so much we didn’t know yet. But in that moment, we knew one thing for sure: a new chapter had begun, and we were grateful to be starting it.
We went into our first ultrasound appointment hoping to see one healthy baby and hear a strong heartbeat. Instead, we got the surprise of our lives and saw two healthy babies on the screen.
In the middle of the excitement, everyone on the third floor heard the reaction:
“PATRICK!! TWINS!?”
That appointment marked the beginning of one big adventure with our two little babies. A much bigger, wilder, and more wonderful adventure than we ever expected.
Reaching the end of the first trimester was an important milestone for us. Given the road it took to get here, this point carried a little extra meaning and gave us a little more room to breathe as we looked ahead.
During this appointment, the sonographer mentioned there might be a chance to find out the twins’ sexes. Naturally, the babies had other plans.
Wanting to stay mysterious a little longer, these little jokesters tucked their umbilical cords between their legs and rolled away from the camera whenever the sonographer tried to get a better look.
We did not leave with an answer that day, but we did get this amazing image and another funny little story for their journey.
During our first Maternal Fetal Ultrasound appointment, we got our first 3D glimpse of Baby A’s face. Until then, so much of the journey had been measurements, movement, and brief views on the screen, so seeing those little features more clearly felt incredibly special.
It was one of the first moments that made everything feel even more real, and a memory we will always hold close.
After several months of waiting, Baby B finally gave us a clear 3D look at that sweet little face. Each appointment had us hoping for a better glimpse, so this one felt especially exciting and worth the wait.
Moments like this remind us how meaningful every little peek can be, and how grateful we are to watch both babies grow in their own time and in their own way.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate one of the biggest surprises of our pregnancy so far: the Carey Twins are a boy and a girl.
Since the twins were originally identified as MoDi, we expected them to be identical and the same sex. But because of an extremely rare medical phenomenon, their story took a very unexpected turn.
Finding out we would have one of each made the day even more exciting, and it gave everyone another reason to celebrate these two remarkable babies.
For the first time, both twins gave us a clear little glimpse of their faces in 3D during the same ultrasound appointment.
After months of watching them grow through measurements, movements, and quick peeks on the screen, seeing both of their faces felt unforgettable. We are grateful for every opportunity to check in on them and see the little people they are becoming.
Reaching the end of the second trimester was another big milestone in our journey.
The babies had grown so much by this point, and every appointment, movement, and update made their arrival feel a little more real. As we moved into the final trimester, we were grateful for how far this pregnancy had come and excited for everything still ahead.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the Carey Twins at an open house celebration.
Guests are invited to drop by any time between 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Reaching 37 weeks will be a major milestone for the Carey Twins and one of the biggest dates on the calendar.
Because twin pregnancies are monitored closely, doctors typically do not recommend continuing much beyond this point. So while August 22 marks the start of week 37, it also represents the point we have been working toward throughout the pregnancy.
September 12, 2026 is the Carey Twins’ "official" due date.
With twins, they will arrive before this day, but this date will always be part of their story. It is the point we counted toward from the very beginning, even as appointments, growth milestones, and medical guidance shaped the path along the way.
This date marks the finish line we first had circled on the calendar.
